‘I found out that I actually have two vaginas while giving birth to my son’

An American mum has become an online sensation after taking part in a TikTok challenge about things doctors have “completely ignored when there was clearly something wrong”.

Mum-of-two, Brittany Jacobs, revealed that she had always had a suspicion that something wasn’t quite right with her, as she’d had two very painful periods every month, sex had hurt both her and her husband and she carried her baby bump on one side.

But it wasn’t until she gave birth to her first child, age 25, that someone finally figured out what the issue was.

In a video posted under the name @BritsBurg, Brittany joked she “owned” the challenge as she explained that a nurse told her she had not one, but two vaginas.

She said: “Yeah, I’m about to own this.

“I’ve always considered myself to have a really high pain tolerance but my periods were so bad I would cry. I always bled out of my tampons.

“When I was pregnant with my first kid, I only carried on one side. Sex was really painful. I got two periods, every month that were normal cycle, but they were two like separate periods.

“Anyways, so like, 30-something hours into labour, the nurse looks down and you know, I’ve had pap smears, I’m giving birth and she says, ‘Oh honey, you have two vaginas, two cervixes and two uteruses, and for 25 years no one noticed or knew what it was.”

She shared her story on TikTok

Following this, Brittany was diagnosed with a rare condition known as uterine didelphys.

She explained more about it in a second video on TikTok, telling how she has one opening which is divided by a vaginal septum – “like the septum in your nose, but thicker”.

“It separates the vaginal canals into one and two, but it’s like an inch or two up inside the one exterior hole,” she says.

“I always thought it was a hymen.”

More than 2.8 million people watched the mum’s first video, with it garnering over 500,000 likes.

Thousands also took the time to comment, with many people having a lot of questions about Brittany’s condition.

One person said: “I guessed the two uterus thing, but not everything. Wow!!”

Another wrote: “Are doctors even DOCTORING anymore? HOW?!?”

A third replied: “OMG!”

Someone else added: “This is so interesting! So does that mean you can theoretically get pregnant on both sides? And would they technically be twins?”
